Artist's Statement
I've been creating things in various media on and off for the past twenty+ years. It's been a constant throughout my adult life. There've been periods of time when I haven't been able to create anything due to focusing on my career or graduate studies, but the urge always comes back. I'm fond of experimentation, which is why clay is my favorite medium. It's very responsive, yet has a life of its own. I've often tried to tame it and construct things with perfectly right angles or achieve uniform glazing results but I've found that takes the fun out of the process and the soul out of the clay.
In addition to hand-built tiles, wall hangings & trivets, I throw bowls, plates, platters & mugs. My work uses strictly food-safe glazes fired to Cone 5/6, which is approximately 2150 degrees F.
Sometimes you'll see this mark on the bottom of my pieces. I3I*IIU That means you got lucky and the piece is part of a limited edition collection using a brand new clay body.
